Police hunt axe man who attacked man on Birmingham bus

Police are hunting an axe-wielding man and his gang who attacked a 26-year-old passenger after a row broke out on the top deck of a bus.

The shocking assault happened just after 3.30pm in the Nechells area of Birmingham on Friday.

CCTV images have been released of five men involved in the dispute on the city’s number 14 bus.

One of the gang hit the victim on the head with an axe, leaving him in hospital, police say.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: ‘It is believed a group of five men became involved in a dispute with a 26-year-old man on the top deck of the bus as it travelled along Saltley Road in Nechells just after 3.30pm.

‘The man is believed to have been hit on the head with an axe, causing him serious injury. He remains in hospital.’

A West Midlands Police spokesman told MailOnline some members of the gang had been identified but not yet arrested.
