Police hunt teen girll after Southport ‘acid’ attack

Police are hunting a teenage girl and three male youths after a shocking ‘acid attack’ on a 49-year-old man.

The gang attacked the victim by punching and kicking him before throwing an unknown substance in his face.

They then stole his phone and wallet in the ‘shocking and unprovoked’ attack, according to police.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for burns to his face and eyes and is understood to be in a stable condition.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Hawkshead Street in Southport at about 9.35pm last night following reports of an assault.

Police said the attackers were three males and a female aged 17-19.

Detective inspector Simon Vaughan of Merseyside Police said: ‘This was a shocking and completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply walking home.

‘Violent robberies such as this will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and I am sure the local community will agree this is completely unacceptable.

‘I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare and patrols in the area have been increased.

‘We are determined to find the people responsible for this and would appeal to anyone with information to call us.’
