Police launch murder probe as boy, 17, is stabbed to death at shopping centre in Nottingham

  • Officers were called to the Castle Retail Park in Radford, Nottingham yesterday
  • Emergency services rushed to the scene after the stabbing was reported
  • The teenager was pronounced dead shortly after ambulance crews arrived  

Detectives have launched a murder probe after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed outside a retail park.

Police in Nottingham were called to the Castle Retail Park in the Radford area of the city at around 7.10pm last night.

Emergency service crews scrambled to the scene to provide medical treatment, but the teenager was pronounced dead a short time later.

No arrests have been made so far and the teenager’s family have been informed and are currently being supported by officers.

A police cordon was put up two streets behind the shopping park where police were initially called.

Glentworth Road, a residential street in the area had a heavy police presence yesterday evening.

After the initial call police also called Prospect Street and Churchfield Lane, but the retail park was not affected by the closures. 

Formal identification has not yet taken place and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklock, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We have launched a murder investigation and, although our enquiries remain at an early stage.’

She also assured the public that uniformed officers, detectives and forensic teams were ‘all working tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding this very serious case’.

‘While we believe this was an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the wider public, we understand the level of concern that incidents of this nature cause our communities. That is why we’re letting the public know to expect to see a large number of uniformed officers in the Castle Retail Park area offering some reassurance following this incident.

‘My thoughts are with the family of the victim who are now facing the devastating reality of coming to terms with the fact that their loved one has lost his life.

‘If you have any information about this incident – no matter how insignificant you may think it may seem – I would urge you to contact police as soon as possible.’

Anyone who witnessed the incident, who believes they may have captured the assault on dashcam footage or has any information about those responsible is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 757 of 19 February 2020, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
