Police officer killed and two deputies shot in Georgia

  • The shooting took place at a home in Locust Grove, 40 miles from Atlanta 
  • The officer was with two veteran sheriff’s deputies serving an arrest warrant
  • The suspect opened fire, wounding all three of the law enforcement officials 
  • He was killed by bullets from one of the officer’s guns
  • The two sheriff’s deputies are both in hospital but are expected to recover
  • The dead police officer had been on the force for around four or five years 

A police officer has been shot dead and two sheriff’s deputies are injured after a shooting in Georgia.  

The shooting occurred in Locust Grove, 40 miles southeast of Atlanta, on Friday morning as the officers were serving a bench warrant for failure to appear in cour. 

The suspect was killed by return fire.  

None have been named yet. 

The two sheriff’s deputies were taken to hospital where one remains in a serious condition and the other is in a fair condition.

Both were wearing bullet proof vests at the time. One was struck beneath it and is in surgery.  

They were both described as veterans of Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

The police officer worked for the Locust Grove Police Department and had been there for around four or five years. 

One neighbor who heard the gunshots told local network WSBTV that the gunshots sounded like ‘firecrackers going off’. 

The home where it happened is nestled inside a suburban subdivision known as Hawthorn at Linden Park. 

There are many families on the street and the streets surrounding it.
