Police officer seriously injured after being shot in the neck during firearms training exercise Brisbane’s Pistol Club in Belmont

A police officer has been rushed to hospital after he was shot during a firearms training exercise.

The Senior Constable, believed to be in his 30s, was hit in the neck with rogue bullet debris at Brisbane‘s Pistol Club in Belmont at about 1pm on Wednesday.

Queensland Police said that another officer shot a metal pole during the routine training which split apart and struck the Senior Constable from the Moreton District.

A police spokesperson said that a stray bullet 'hit a metal bar on the target, causing a small piece of metal to ricochet back and hit the trainer in the right side of the neck'

The incident happened when the Senior Constable was ‘supervising as part of his requalification rifle supervisor training,’ a police spokesperson said.

Paramedics took the Senior Constable to the Princess Alexandria Hospital with a neck injury and he is now in a stable condition. 

Support is now being offered to all officers involved in the incident.
