Police scanner captures terror as gunfire reigned in Vegas

Police scanner audio captured the terror and confusion as gunfire reigned down in Las Vegas last night.

Panic can be heard in many of the voices of cops at the scene who responded to the mass shooting at a country music festival inLas Vegas on Sunday night.

‘It’s coming from upstairs at Mandalay Bay,’ a officer told a dispatcher on the recording, as gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, continued to fire gunshots from his hotel room, at the crowd of revelers below.

‘Halfway up, I see the shots fired from the Mandalay Bay.’

‘We have multiple casualties, GSWs (gun shot wounds), multiple casualties.’

The dispatcher responds, warning the officer that they had reports of ‘automatic fire, fully automatic fire, from an elevated position.

‘Take cover!’

The cop said he can see multiple people with serious, life threatening injuries.

‘Multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, legs, femoral arteries. Send a medical team.’

A witness at the scene said he saw one girl get shot in the face right in front of him.

At least 50 people were killed, and more than 400 were wounded when 64-year-old Paddock, a resident of nearby Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas Village from a room across the street in the Mandalay Bay Hotel shortly after 10pm.

Medical teams at a local hospital confirmed that they had more than a dozen patients in critical condition, while two people died shortly after arrival.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said that his officers breached Paddock’s room, number 135 on the 32nd floor and found Paddock dead inside, among an ‘arsenal’ of weapons. Lombardo said that Paddock shot himself dead.

Another police scanner recording captured the moment cops confirmed the shooter was dead.

‘We have one suspect down, one suspect down inside the room at Mandalay Bay.

‘The room is secure, he was firing into the crowd.’

It also captured the confusion as cops received reports of multiple shootings at multiple hotels and locations across the Vegas strip, and pleas by officers for medical teams.

‘We’re now getting reports of shots fired at Cesar’s and the Bellagio,’ an officer reported to dispatch.

Dispatch responded: ‘We need confirmation from these hotels as soon as possible about these shots fired. We just have one suspect down at this point of time.’

The hotels confirmed the reports were incorrect.

Swat teams were also sent out to reports of gunfire at New York, New York, Paris Las Vegas and The Tropicana.

One overwhelmed sounding cop called in for backup at Paris for reports of 434 – the Vegas cop code for illegal shooting.

‘You have a couple more strike teams on route to you, please hold and be safe on your entry,’ a dispatcher responded. ‘Are you still hearing 434s?

‘We have people running everywhere,’ the cop responded.

‘Are you hearing 434s right now?’

‘Nehative, negative,’ she told dispatch.

It was later confirmed that the gunman had already been taken down but there was thousands fleeing the hotel.

Investigators are now raiding Paddock’s home in Mesquite, which he shared with a woman named Marilou Danley.

Cops identified Danley as a person of interest in the shooting on the police scanner, but police no longer believe she was involved after contacting her early Monday morning and finding her out of the country. Police say it appears Paddock used her ID when he checked into his hotel on September 28.

Lombardo said investigations are still ongoing and police have not yet determined a motive. He was not believed to be connected to any militant group, Lombardo said.

‘We have no idea what his belief system was,’ he added.

President Donald Trump paid his respects on Monday morning after the shooting, writing on Twitter: ‘My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!’

Terrifying footage from the scene shows concert-goers reacting with confusion and then panic as the festival turned into a bloodbath around them.

Video from close to the stage shows people hitting the floor as others crawl to safety or run for their lives. Audio from further back in the crowd captured several bursts of sustained automatic gunfire.

Witnesses said ‘hundreds’ of rounds of ammunition were emptied into the crowd, with Paddock stopping several times to reload as he carried out his massacre.

Among those shot dead at the concert was an off-duty Las Vegas Metro Police officer. Attendees said a large number of law enforcement and military personnel had been attending the show.

Two on-duty Las Vegas police officers who engaged the shooter have been hospitalized. One of the officers was critically injured, but is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery. The other officer suffered minor injuries. Neither have been identified. Two officers with the Las Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies were also injured in the shooting. One is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition. Their names have not been released either.

All of the ambulances in the area were been deployed to the location, and victims taken to two hospitals.

One witness at the concert told DailyMail.com that a woman had entered the crowd with a male companion and screamed ‘They’re all around… You’re all going to f***ing die today’ just 45 minutes before the gunfire broke out.

The woman was described as being Hispanic and in her 50s; she and the man were escorted out of the venue by security.
