Traffickers have been using pigeons, which can make up to 15 deliveries a day, since 2013.

In this latest attempt, they released the bird on the day of a local pigeon-fanciers event, hoping it would be hard for police to spot it among the other birds.

In May, a pigeon was caught in Kuwait near the Iraqi border, carrying a small rucksack filled with 178 ketamine pills.
