Terrifying police siege as a man waving a machete takes a woman hostage in a suburban home – and is heard yelling ‘I am not going back to jail’
A machete-waving man who yelled ‘I’m not going back to jail’ at police has taken a woman hostage in a Sydney home.
Police surrounded the home on Denniston Street in Carramar, in the city’s west, at about 1pm following reports of a disturbance.
Witnesses say they saw the armed 35-year-old in a confrontation with police on the front veranda, before he retreated inside.

The pair have been hauled up inside the home for five hours.
Neighbours said the man was recently released from prison and wears an ankle bracelet as part of his parole, according to 9 News.
They also said the man could be heard yelling: ‘I am not coming out, I am not going back to jail.’
It is understood that the woman was not injured at 6pm, but paramedics were on the scene.
Police put the street in lockdown and have urged residents to stay away.
