Police have warned William Tyrrell’s kidnapper to ‘come to us before we come to you’ as detectives launch a renewed search for the missing boy nearly four years after he vanished from his foster grandmother’s yard.
For the next month, forensic experts will conduct a sweep of dense bushland around the property in Kendall on the NSW mid-north coast, where William was last seen on September 12, 2014. He was three years old at the time.
Lead investigator Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin issued a stern warning to people with information and said although police hold ‘grave fears’ for the boy, they were considering ‘the possibility that he is still alive.’
‘If you do have information concerning what happened to William, you are at risk of committing a criminal offence if you do not come forward. I’d suggest you come to us before we come to you,’ he said.

Det Insp Jubelin believes people do know what happened to the William and reiterated the $1million reward for information leading to his recovery.
There are hundreds of people on the persons of interest list, but few were considered high priority, Det Insp Jubelin said.
Investigators were quizzed on why it has taken four years to begin searching for forensic evidence, but Det Insp Jubelin said it was ‘appropriate’ to search again now.
The initial search focused only on finding ‘a little boy lost’, he said.

The new search, Det Insp Jubelin said, will document areas combed by police and any hard evidence they find of William.
‘So we can show, beyond reasonable doubt, that William’s disappearance was the result of human intervention and not through misadventure,’ he said.
Up to 50 officers carrying brown science bags have spent Wednesday filtering in and out of the cordoned-off bush track as the fresh search kicked off.
Det Insp Jubelin said time was no barrier with forensic evidence but acknowledged concerns the boy would not come home.
‘We have grave, grave concerns and it has been a very long time,’ he said.

‘But until we know conclusively that William is not alive we’ll treat it with the possibility that he is still alive.’
Det Insp Jubelin said it was hoped some evidence, which can be given to a criminal court or coronial inquest, will be found in the three kilometres of bushland surrounding the property.
William was playing in the yard of his foster grandmother’s home when he vanished in September, 2014.
Hundreds of locals and emergency services workers spent 10 days looking for him in the rural township, forests, creeks and paddocks to no avail.
