Maintaining a neat bikini line is something that many women spend plenty of time and money on – with a great number choosing to have a professional take care of any hair removal so as to ensure it is done as quickly and with as little pain as possible.
From waxing to lasering, there are numerous in-salon methods to help with the upkeep of that most intimate area, however most come with a pretty hefty price tag.
But now, a porn star has shared her top tips for how to take care of any bikini line maintenance at home using nothing more than a razor, a technique many women avoid because of the risks involved that range from cuts to ingrown hairs.
Expert: Porn star, Dillion Harper, (pictured) shared her tips on how to get a perfectly shaved bikini line every time
Working in the adult entertainment industry means that Dillion Harper, 26, spends much of her time naked, with cameras often focusing in to get a close up shot of her vagina – meaning she likes to keep it looking as pristine as possible at all times.
However, Dillon admitted to admitted to Popsugar that she was too scared to try waxing or laser, so she looked into other at-home methods, eventually settling on shaving as being the most effective and pain-free.
And not just that, she has also enjoyed getting incredibly creative with the process, coming up with the perfect technique that she is now sharing with the world.
‘To me, shaving is like being your own artist,’ she explained. ‘You’re able to style your pubic hair any way you like.’
Before finally finding her way with a razor, however, Dillon says she had a rather awful encounter with Nair hair removal cream, noting that she thought it would be the most ‘easy, painless’ method of bikini line maintenance.
However, she didn’t realize that the cream was not meant to be used on the vulva, but instead only meant to be used on the arms, legs and bikini line.
Describing the painful lesson she learned, Dillion confessed, ‘Let’s just say it’s nothing I would wish upon my worst enemy.’
Tips: The 26-year-old adult film actress (pictured) has tried different hair removal techniques but swears by shaving and shared the exact steps in her routine
It took a while for the porn star to figure out the best hair removal route but after many painful experiences, she was finally able to nail down the perfect routine.
First, Dillion shampoos and conditions her pubes as if it was the hair on her head. Then, she lathers the entire area with shaving cream, ‘always working with a fresh razor.’
The fresh razor she always has on hand is the $13 Gillette Venus Swirl Five-Blade Flexiball Razor, while her shaving cream of choice is a $6 bottle of Cremo, made with natural ingredients.
‘It’s a moisturizer and shaving cream all in one. I love the coconut mango smell,’ she shared.
Once the bikini area is prepped and ready to go, Dillion explains, ‘Use two fingers to split your labia as you shave.’
Then, she says, you should shave absolutely everything, including the inside of the labia – but be very careful if it’s your first time shaving that spot.
For those who are nervous about accidentally cutting themselves and aren’t ready to completely shave the inside of the labia, she suggests: ‘You can shave a little above your lips and a little above your clitoris.’
Then, once you are out of the shower, she suggests trimming any leftover or stray hairs with a pair of scissors.
Shaving: First, Dillion shampoos and conditions her pubes then shaves the entire area with a fresh razor every time, following up with aloe vera on the raw skin
Once all of the hair is removed, Dillion’s next step is blow drying her pubic hair, stating, ‘After you wash, don’t forget to fluff things out.’
While it may sound unnecessary and time-consuming, blowing out your pubes is actually beneficial considering a buildup of moisture in your vagina can throw off the natural pH level in your body which may lead to a yeast infection or bacteria growth.
After everything is removed and bare, Dillion recommends treating the raw area with aloe vera or simply pressing a hot towel against the freshly shaved skin to prevent any irritation, bumps or ingrowns.
Even though she suggests treating the area, she warns not to go overboard with soothing creams because it might irritate the skin more.
‘You can add a little moisturizer, but make sure it is just a dab. You don’t want the area to be too moist,’ she shared.
After everything is shaved, soothed and treated you will be on your merry way.
