Powerball winners: Mum reveals incredible plan after winning huge prize

A Queensland mum who bought a Powerball ticket for herself as a Christmas present has walked away with 20 wins worth more than $34,000,000, but won’t quit her job despite scoring the massive jackpot.

The woman from Durack, west Brisbane, was one of three division one winners of Thursday’s Powerball.

Draw number 1389 was the last Powerball for 2022 and had a jackpot of $100million.

The mum was the only Queenslander to win a division one prize on Thursday, with her and two NSW players taking $33,333,333.34 each.

However, the Durack woman was even luckier and claimed 19 division two wins bringing her total takings to $34.2million.

‘I’m shaking!’ she told an an official from The Lott who made contact with her on Thursday evening.

‘I just happened to have a look on The Lott app just before, and I saw the numbers lit up.

‘I just jumped to the roof and screamed! The kids thought a cockroach was in the kitchen.

‘I bought this ticket for myself for Christmas. Thank you so much. That’s a bit of coin!’

The mum said she would use the money to change her family’s life for the better. 

‘This will definitely change our lives. This will not only help my family but also help us move forward with a better life,’ she said.

‘Wow! This is going to be fantastic! It’s going to make a huge difference. I’m lost for words.

‘This is going to help ease the pressure, but I’ll keep working as I love it.

‘This is an amazing end to the year. It’s the best ever. Dreams really do come true!’

Her ticket was bought at Nextra Forest Lake News in the Forest Lake Village Shopping Centre, Brisbane.

The owner of the newsagency said he was thrilled to see one of his customers become a multi-millionaire, just in time for the new year.

A dad from Burwood, west Sydney, said he’d bought the Powerball ticket that won him $33.3million on a whim. 

‘Are you f***ing kidding me!? Jesus Christ!’ he said to an official from The Lott.

‘Mate, you are the man! This is incredible.

‘I am absolutely speechless. We only play from time to time. In fact, we play Powerball very rarely!

‘My wife said, “why not, let’s buy a ticket in the draw!”.

‘I’m so glad we did!’

He said the money would be life-changing for his family. 

‘This has completely changed my family’s life in the space of five minutes! I don’t even know where to begin!

‘Am I dreaming? I need to pinch myself to make sure this is real.’

The winning man couldn’t wait to give his wife the good news and rushed to tell her their lives had changed forever.

‘We can do whatever we want! We’ve just won the lottery!’

The Sydneysider bought his game on The Lott’s website, the same place another NSW winner that has been unreachable purchased theirs. 

Lottery officials were unable to contact the third winner on Thursday and urged anyone who had an entry in the Powerball draw i to check their tickets as soon as possible.

There was a total of 3,115,707 prizes worth more than $56.5million won in divisions two to nine in Thursday’s Powerball draw. 

Among the prizes were 33 division two wins each worth $47,444.20.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw ​1389​ on ​Thursday 29 December 2022​ were ​9, 26, 4, 23, 22, 6 and 24​. The Powerball number was ​18​.

In 2022, 22 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $764million in prize money.

Of the 22 Powerball division one winning entries in 2022, 13 came from New South Wales, four in Victoria, two each in Western Australia and Queensland, and one in South Australia.
