PowerWash Simulator VR review: Like housework, only fun! Wash those blues away, writes PETER HOSKIN

Verdict: Good clean fun

My New Year’s resolution is to do a bit more cleaning. Not of actual dirt in my actual house, of course. That would be silly. But of virtual dirt in a game.

One of the surprise hits of the past few years has been PowerWash Simulator — a game that, as its name suggests, sets you the task of spraying super-heated, super-pressurised water at a variety of digital objects in order to make them cleaner.

One swipe with your controller and that van’s bonnet is looking far less mucky. Another swipe, and you’ve scrubbed up the patio.

Recently, a year or so after its original release, PowerWash Simulator came to VR, which isn’t just great timing for anyone who got a new headset for Christmas — it also feels like the game finding its true home.

Although this candy-coloured world of light labour is fun to experience on a television screen, it’s much better to feel as though you’re actually there (even if the slightly too lo-fi graphics sometimes spoil the effect).

So you don a wetsuit. Grab a hose-gun. And add an attachment for the task at hand.

There’s even a narrative campaign that you can spray your way through, earning money to buy better equipment for grimier jobs.

But, really, PowerWash Simulator VR is all about the moment-to-moment gameplay. The satisfying, weirdly relaxing feeling of shooting at dirt with water.

Who knows? I may even start doing more cleaning in the real world. Or maybe not.
