Pregnant Kate Middleton is still wearing normal clothes

For many people pregnancy spells a complete wardrobe overhaul to accommodate a growing bump and changing shape, but not for the Duchess of Cambridge.

The 36-year-old who is expecting her third child in April is still wearing regular clothing during her public appearances and hasn’t yet had to resort to maternity wear six months into her pregnancy.

This week the Duchess sported two non-maternity coats, a pink number from Mulberry during a visit to Coventry and one from Boden’s main line at Great Ormond Street hospital.

She also wore a pair of Monreal joggers that she wore last year and when she was three months pregnant, with a PlayBrave track jacket – neither of which were maternity wear.

According to celebrity stylist Rochelle White, the Duchess is so in tune with what suits her figure that she doesn’t need to opt for maternity wear.

‘Kate really does pull off being pregnant well,’ she explained. ‘I think that it’ s down to really knowing her style, body and shape.

Her bump is very small but even when she carrying prince George and princess Charlotte, she dressed according to her usual style. I think that good tailoring plays a part as well as choosing items that not only flatter her, but her growing bump.’

Of course, not every pregnant woman develops a large bump, but many women find that water retention can change their shape meaning they have to opt for maternity wear.

‘Looking at Kate’s frame, she is very lucky that she doesn’t seem to retain too much water or weight when she is pregnant, so she can carry of her usually look quite effortlessly,’ Rochelle said.

If you are shunning maternity wear in favour of normal clothes, Rochelle advises going for whatever you feel comfortable in, whether that’s a tight dress that shows off the bump or leggings and an oversized top.

‘Don’t force yourself into something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Look for flattering styles that suit your body and shape well and maybe opt for a size up.’
