Pregnant snake found in Queensland family’s backyard

  • An eastern brown snake has been found in a Queensland family’s backyard
  • It was pregnant and did not react well to being prodded by a snake catcher
  • Ultimately the venomous reptile was placed inside a bag and removed
  • This species is the second most lethal land snake in the world

A pregnant brown snake which was ‘chocked full of eggs’ has been found hiding in a family’s backyard.

The dangerous reptile, which is responsible for 60 percent of snake deaths in Australia, was laying in the sun right next to a five-year-old’s play area in Eumundi, Queensland.

Noosa’s resident snake catcher Luke prodded the animal, which is believed to be carrying 15 babies, with a large metal pole before sweeping it off the grass.

But the heavily pregnant snake wasn’t going down without a fight and proceeded to swivel her head in protest – narrowly missing Luke’s torso.

The woman, possibly the owner of the house, was filming the scene and promptly told the snake catcher if he dropped his precious cargo she would ‘f***ing kill him.’

Despite having some close calls, Luke was able to safely transfer the snake into a cloth bag ready to be taken away from the family home.

‘Well this jumpy brown snake was okay to begin with then decided she really didn’t want to be picked up…,’ the catcher wrote on Facebook.
