A pregnant vegan was shocked to find an expletive-filled rant telling her to ‘go f***’ herself scrawled on a delivery box after ordering some dairy-free doughnuts online.
The message read: ‘Go f*** yourself, have a bacon’.
The woman, from Kent, who wants to remain anonymous, snapped a photo of the crude message on the box of treats from The Vegan Kind, a monthly subscription service that also sells plant-based products online.
Courier service DPD, which delivered the box, has launched an investigation into the message – and offered the woman £100 to spend with The Vegan Kind as an apology.
A pregnant woman, from Kent, who wishes to remain anonymous, was left shocked after finding a hate-filled note on her delivery box of dairy-free doughnuts from The Vegan Kind. The courier service which delivered it, DPD, is investigating
The shocked customer shared a picture of the hateful message in the Facebook group Vegan Food UK, which has 23,000 members.
She wrote: ‘Had a huge craving for doughnuts the other night so went on to TheVeganKind to order – they arrived today with this charming message left on the box.
‘Some really angry, sad little people out there.’
She later updated the post to reveal she contacted The Vegan Kind to let them know about the message on the box, and they in turn contacted the courier service DPD.
She added that she didn’t eat the doughnuts over fears they may have been tampered with.
The anonymous pregnant woman took to the Facebook group Vegan Food UK to post a picture of the hate-filled message on the delivery box and write a post saying how upset she was by it
Fellow vegans who shared the post online and commented on the original post were shocked to see the hate-filled note – and criticised the vandal’s command of the English lanaguage in telling her to ‘have a bacon’
She wrote: ‘I won’t be touching the doughnuts as I don’t want to take the risk. I can see why ppl might find it funny [sic], but I didn’t, I found it hateful, offensive and unnecessary.’
The Vegan Kind told her they were taking the matter seriously and were ‘appalled’ at the scrawled note.
A spokesman commented: ”The culprit may have thought they were just having a bit of a joke, but the message wasn’t simply a gentle poking of fun at the vegan lifestyle – it was hurtful and nasty and completely unnecessary.
‘We are confident that DPD are going to be able to trace this back to the person responsible and will take appropriate action when they do.’
They added: ‘It was really sad for us to see that, even in this day and age, certain individuals are still unable to accept how other people live and instead choose to be aggressive and abusive when the chance arises.
‘This situation highlights the negative attitudes many vegans still encounter, simply because of their choice to live a compassionate lifestyle.’
The spokesman added that the message was the action of one individual and does not represent the views of DPD as an organisation.
They added that every parcel that leaves The Vegan Kind’s warehouse is picked and packed by their team to ensure it is prepared ‘with love and care’.
TheVeganKind launched in 2013 and has since become one of the UK’s fastest growing vegan businesses with an annual turnover of more than £2 million.
