Pregnant woman, 27, found dead in rural Minnesota forest

Police in Minnesota announced on Saturday that a pregnant woman who was reported missing two weeks ago has been discovered dead.

The body of of 27-year-old Kara Blevins of Akeley was found at 8.15pm in a wooded area in the Chippewa National Forest, according to local ABC affiliate KSTP 5. 

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said that Blevins was originally reported missing on February 5.  

Burch said that the circumstances of her death are still under investigation with her remains set to be transferred to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner Office for an autopsy. 

Local law enforcement said that they conducted an extensive search for Belvins shortly after her reported disappearance, which included ground and air patrols. 

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Akeley Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol and other agencies are assisting in the investigation, KSTP 5 reported.

It remains unclear how far along Blevins was in the pregnancy at the time of her death.
