Premier League agree to postpone Arsenal vs Man City next month

Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Man City next month is POSTPONED to squeeze in their Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven, that was called off ‘due to insufficient police personnel’ in London

The Premier League have agreed to postpone Arsenal’s scheduled match with Manchester City next month so that they can play their rearranged Europa League fixture with PSV Eindhoven instead.

Arsenal were due to host the Dutch club on Thursday, but the match was called off as a result of police shortages ahead of the Queen’s funeral next Monday.

It has now been confirmed that this game will take place on Thursday, October 20, while the Gunners’ match against City, which was set to be played on October 19, has been moved.

A new date for the Premier League clash is set to be announced in due course.

This decision means that Arsenal will now be able to fulfill all of their European fixtures before the domestic season pauses for the World Cup.

The Gunners won their opening group game in the competition 2-1 at FC Zurich last week.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side now face a potential backlog of fixtures in the second half of the season.

Football was postponed in the UK last weekend following the Queen’s death, meaning their match with Everton needs to be rescheduled.

They must also now find a convenient time to play City, and with neither club having any spare midweeks between now and the World Cup, this game now looks likely to be played after Christmas.

City face a similar challenge themselves as they need to rearrange their games with Arsenal and Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola did not seem too concerned when he was asked in his Champions League press conference on Tuesday about the possibility of fixture congestion for his team.

‘The Premier League has the ability to find [room for] the fixtures,’ he said.

‘Maybe the Tottenham game will be in February or March because now I think it is not possible. We will find a way.

‘There’s the Carabao Cup, FA Cup at that moment but we will find a way. We are going to play this postponed game, it’s not a problem. Always the fixtures were so tight every season.’
