Prince Harry joins London Fire Brigade for carol service

They made their public debut as a couple on Friday, but it was back to solo engagements for Prince Harry on Monday.

Prince Harry left his fiance Meghan Markle at home as he joined members of the London Fire Brigade (LFB) past and present for its annual carol service.

In what is his first solo engagement since his wedding plans were announced Harry, 33, appeared to be in the festive spirit as he arrived at Westminster Cathedral.

Prince Harry attended the annual carol service held at Westminster Cathedral on Monday

The prince braved the chilly December weather without a coat this evening, opting instead for a classic grey suit in light of the special occasion.

Harry took his seat at the pews of the famous Cathedral for the popular event, which will feature festive readings and Christmas carols for the LFB’s uniformed and non-uniformed staff and their families.

The event will also be attended by former colleagues who have retired from the Brigade.

The LFB had to meet the challenge of responding to the devastating Grenfell Tower blaze, which saw dozens of firemen and women called out to the fire in June.

Police believe the final death toll is 71, including a stillborn baby.

Upon his arrival Harry met with LFB Commissioner Dany Cotton and other dignitaries.

After watching the service the prince is expected to meet some of the Brigade’s frontline staff, firefighters and cadets.

This evening’s service comes just a few days after Harry and Meghan visited Nottingham together.

The royal is bound to be met by many congratulations from those at the carol service having announced his engagement to the 36-year-old actress just a week ago.

The couple revealed that he popped the question over a chicken dinner at what is Meghan’s new home of the Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

The pair will marry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May next year.
