Prince Harry was afraid he’d look ‘weird’ by juggling in the background of Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday video, Melissa McCarthy has revealed.

The actress, 50, who starred with the Duchess of Sussex in her milestone birthday message last week, spoke to Access Hollywood about her appearance in the clip to launch Meghan’s  ’40×40′ campaign.

The video ends with ‘bloopers’ from the recording session – including one shot of Prince Harry juggling in the garden, which can be seen through the window. The Duke of Sussex, 36, who is wearing sunglasses and a polo shirt, tosses three balls into the air before dropping them on the ground.

He tries again, this time throwing just two balls, and flashes an impish smile at his wife before ducking out of shot.

Melissa is left in stitches, while an apparently surprised Meghan says: ‘What the?’ before bursting into a fresh fit of giggles.

Speaking  to promote her new Hulu show, 9 Perfect Strangers, the Bridesmaid star said: ‘She’s [Meghan Markle] doing such an amazing thing to celebrate her 40th.

‘I just love that she is like, “Oh, what can I do to put some good and help some people out?” Well that is awfully nice.

‘Then in comes Harry and he’s like, “I can juggle”…

‘Then he’s like, “Is it going to be weird if I stand outside and juggle?”

‘I was like, “Weird in a way that will make me watch it 5 million times!”

Meghan has asked 40 activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to participate by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to women re-entering the workforce, saying that millions of women have been ‘shouldered the brunt’ of the Covid-19 pandemic and need help returning or regaining work.

Among those who have committed 40 minutes of their time to mentor a woman in their community are singer Adele, poet Amanda Gorman, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and fashion designer Stella McCartney.

The slick film was made in the same immaculate Montecito study where Harry filmed his recent Apple TV mental health series with Oprah, and Meghan sits at grand oak desk with a number of pictures of her husband and two children, a pile of strategically placed copies of Meghan’s children’s book The Bench and a quintessentially British cup of tea and biscuits. Her beagle Bogart is sat behind her on a luxurious grey dog cushion.

Praising the couple for finding independence from the royal family, Melissa went on:  ‘They were so sweet and funny. I just find them very inspiring.

‘They’re carving out their own lives. They’re carving out their lives for their kids.

‘The way she wants to celebrate her 40th is by helping and empowering other women.

‘How do you not get behind that? They don’t take themselves to seriously.

‘She said let’s do it in a fun way and see if we can drum up more people helping more women kind of get back into the workforce… I was so please to be a part of it.’
