Prince Harry’s army friend – who owns a £100 million castle – marries

The Duke of Roxburghe, once Britain’s most eligible bachelor, is officially off the market after marrying the stepdaughter of a South African mining tycoon.

Charlie, 40, an Army pal of Prince Harry, inherited his father Guy’s title and £100m estate after the elder man passed away at the family’s ancestral pile, Floors Castle, near Kelso, in the Scottish Borders in 2019.

Former Army captain Charlie – who has a daughter with his ex-girlfriend, the Iranian fashion designer Morvarid Sahafi – met Annie Green, 31, last summer.

After Charlie and Annie announced in February they were engaged, Morvarid, who is a long-term friend of Annie, said she was over-the-moon for the couple.

She revealed: ‘I have known her for 15 years. I knew her before I knew him. I am very happy about the marriage. I could not have picked a better person myself. She [Annie] is incredible.’

In snaps shared on the Floors Castle Instagram page the newlyweds beamed at the camera after marrying in a low-key ceremony on the estate.

The bride was glowing in a cream wrap dress for the wedding at Floors Castle, sweeping her blonde locks into an elegant up-do.

She wore a pearl necklace for the occasion and could be seen carrying a bouquet of cream and pink flowers.

Meanwhile Charlie donned a navy suit with a blue shirt for the big event.

Annie is an Edinburgh University graduate who’s training as an occupational therapist.

In February 2021,  Richard Eden revealed Charlie had popped the question, with Annie reportedly telling friends: ‘How could I say no?’

Meanwhile another source told him: ‘They will get married as soon as this pandemic is over.’

Charlie was previously married to Lord Beaverbrook’s elder daughter, Charlotte Aitken, but the couple separated just a few months later. She works as a wedding planner.

The Castle was first opened to the public in 1977 by the 10th Duke of Roxburghe, the year he married Lady Jane Grosvenor, sister of the Duke of Westminster.

Charlie’s father Guy Innes Ker died in 2019 after a long battle with cancer at the family’s ancestral pile, Floors Castle, near Kelso, in the Scottish Borders.

He was a graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy and Cambridge University, inheriting the title from his father at the age of just 19.

Guy split from Lady Jane in 1990, and married Virginia Wynn-Williams two years later.

The castle has a history of tempestuous break-ups with Charlie’s grandfather, the 9th Duke, famously trying to evict his wife in 1953 after he had an affair.

She refused leave, locking herself in a suite at the castle for six weeks.

In response the Duke turned off the electricity and gas and even attempted to cut off her water supply to get her out. Eventually, the dispute was settled out of court.

2021 marks the 300th-anniversary of Floors Castle, with the team maintaining the estate planning a series of events to celebrate the landmark.
