Prince Harry’s former hunting pal Prince Franz Albrecht zu Oettingen-Spielberg announces new baby

A friend of Prince Harry’s who is nicknamed ‘The Boar Terminator’ has announced he is expecting his third child.

Hereditary Prince Franz Albrecht of Oettingen-Spielberg tied-the-knot with Baroness Cleopatra von Adelsheim von Ernest in 2016, with the two announcing on Instagram yesterday that they are pregnant for a third time.

The couple already have two children together Princess Matilda Galilea, six, and Prince Louis-Albrecht, four.

Prince Franz was once a close friend of the Duke of Sussex, who would regularly go on shooting holidays to his Oettingen castle home in Germany.

Franz has been described as possessing ‘world-class’ shooting skills and was even nicknamed ‘The Boar Terminator’ after a video emerged which purported to show him in a snowy forest killing a number of running wild boar in quick succession.

Hereditary Prince Franz Albrecht of Oettingen-Spielberg and his actress wife Baroness Cleopatra von Adelsheim von Ernest are expecting their third child, it has been announced

Sharing snaps from a pregnancy shoot on Instagram, Cleo wrote: ‘I consider it very lucky and I am much more relaxed than with the other pregnancies and my children are also bursting with anticipation.’

Prince Harry was a guest at the castle in 2016 to witness his friend Prince Franz  wed Cleopatra, who, like Meghan Markle, is also an actress.

Cleo, as she is known, has appeared in a handful of German film and television productions although she also happens to be a baroness.

Franz is so well known for his shot, he has recorded instructive videos on boar shooting which are available online.

Prince Harry learned to shoot as a child and by 12 was already joining his father, the Prince of Wales, on the traditional Boxing Day shoot near Sandringham.

In 2004 he was photographed perched atop a water buffalo he had shot dead during a hunt in Argentina.

Harry travelled to Germany in December 2016 for a shooting party, where he was among a 50-strong group at a shooting party at Oettingen Castle.

He joined the same group of friends again the following year.

‘Yes, the two are friends,’ the BaS paper quoted a Harry bodyguard as saying. Allegedly he was one of 60 guests for the hunt.

BaS said the royal guest arrived with his own weapons aboard the Gulfstream aircraft which he boarded for the flight home.

However it is not known if Harry has hunted since, or where his friendship with the German stands now.

In December 2018, during the Harry and Meghan’s first Christmas together, there were rumours the Duke would abstain from a traditional Boxing Day hunt, which had to be dismissed by palace sources as ‘completely untrue’.

Harry was then notably absent from shoots at Balmoral and Sandringham, according to The Sun.

And in 2020, Harry’s friend Dr Jane Goodall said the Duke was likely to stop hunting because  the Duchess ‘doesn’t like it.’

Speaking to the Radio Times, she said: ‘I think Harry will stop because Meghan doesn’t like hunting, so I suspect that is over for him.’

Weeks later, it was reported Prince Harry had sold a pair of handmade hunting rifles as he bid to please animal-loving wife Meghan Markle.

A hunter bought a pair of Purdey firearms, thought to be worth around £50,000, in a private deal, before the couple quit the UK for Canada and later moved to the US, The Sun reported.

A friend of the anonymous buyer said: ‘He bought them because he wanted them, not because they belonged to Harry, but he was quite chuffed when he found out.

They are beautiful examples and he’s very pleased with them but he’s not the sort of person who wants to boast about the royal connection.’
