Prince Philip is spotted driving around Balmoral in his Land Rover

Prince Philip showed he’s still enjoying his independence in his 97th year, by taking his racing green Land Rover for a spin on the country roads around Balmoral.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who underwent hip surgery earlier this year, looked comfortable as he cornered a bend on the A93 in his off-road car.

Travelling alone, the royal, who’s still in the Scottish Highlands on his annual extended summer break, wore his spectacles for the short journey.

The Duke of Edinburgh is still a frequent driver – of both car and carriage – and was spotted back in the seat of his Land Rover in Windsor, just two weeks after undergoing surgery in June this year.

Now officially retired from public duty, the Prince has clearly been enjoying his summer break in Scotland and was last spotted attending church with the Queen and extended family on August 19th.

Looking sharp and smart in a grey suit with blue tie, Prince Philip made the rare public appearance at Crathie Kirk church in the Queen’s royal Bentley.

A slew of royal visitors have been keeping them company over the summer with Zara and Mike Tindall, who welcomed their second daughter Lena on June 18, Camilla and Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex all heading north.

And this weekend, it was the turn of Prince William to accompany his grandmother to church.

Joining Charles and Camilla, William looked smart in a dark suit and red tie, but there was no sign of his wife The Duchess of Cambridge, who no doubt had her hands full with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Her Majesty looked in great spirits yesterday, no doubt delighted to be spending time with her grandson, 36, who joined her in the back of her chauffeur-drive Bentley for the outing to Crathie Kirk.
