Prince William takes part in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy

The Duke of Cambridge was joined by his young family for a day of equestrian fun at the polo.

William, 35, is taking part in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, just a day after taking part in the show-stopping Trooping the Colour parade in London.

And Kate delighted fans with a surprise appearance on Sunday afternoon as she, George and Charlotte joined crowds at the venue in Tetbury.

Dressed casually in a £39.99 Zara dress and wedge heels, the Duchess looked every inch the doting mother as she kept a watchful eye on George, four and his cousins Isla and Savannah Phillips.

George was no doubt delighted to be reunited with his cousin Savannah, who on Saturday was pictured mischievously covering his mouth with her hand as they watched the Red Arrows flypast from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The prince, an experienced polo player, looked strapping in his gear, picking up his mallet and helmet before showing his dexterity as he rode around the pitch.

Today’s charity match will help raise funds and awareness for two charities – the Royal Marsden, which the Duke supports as president, and Centrepoint, of which he is patron.

The match, which will see the Maserati team take on the Dhamani 1969 side, is part of the two-day Gloucestershire Festival of Polo, hosted by Beaufort Polo Club from 9th-10th June.

Tickets cost up to £150 a head for the event, described by organisers as a ‘special day out’ and featuring rural demonstrations, a tented ‘shopping village’ and traditional funfair.

The first day of the event, a highlight of the equestrian calendar, was attended by the likes of Carol Vorderman, Lisa Maxwell and Richard Hammond.

Sunday’s match is part of a series of charitable polo matches that the Duke and Prince Harry will play in this summer.

The two brothers have taken part in polo fixtures in support of their charities since 2007, and have continued each year since, raising over £11 million for charitable causes to date.

Today’s appearance is one of William’s first since becoming a father for the third time in March, and Harry’s first since returning from his mystery honeymoon with Meghan.

The brothers’ love of all things equestrian runs in the family, with several members having represented Great Britain at international level.

Their aunt Princess Anne and cousin Zara have both competed at the Olympics in eventing, with Zara earning a silver medal with the British team; both have been winners of the annual Sports Personality of the Year award.

Their love for the sport is thought to have come from their father Prince Charles. Both he and Prince Philip were keen players and often competed in tournaments.
