Princess Anne sends heartwarming letter to woman with Alzheimer’s

An elderly woman is ‘over the moon’ after receiving a letter from Princess Anne thanking her for posting a ‘splendid’ set of handmade knitwear.

Lily Baker, from Middlesborough, was convinced the Queen’s daughter had asked her to knit some clothing and sent a set of mufflers addressed to Anne along with her husband Sir Tim Laurence, and her daughter, Zara Tindall.

The 95-year-old, helped by her family, sent the handmade knitted items to Buckingham Palace and last week she received a note thanking her for sending the knitted goods.

Speaking to Royal Central, Lily’s granddaughter, Charlie, said: ‘My grandma is beyond thrilled that Princess Anne liked her gifts and my family and I are all very grateful for her response as my grandma is over the moon.’

The letter, which arrived last week, was hand-signed by the Princess Royal’s Private Secretary, Captain Nick Wright, who was asked to thank Lily on behalf of the royals.

The note, which is written on official Buckingham Palace paper, reads: ‘The Princess Royal has asked me to thank you for the three splendid hand-knitted mufflers your daughter recently sent to the office for Her Royal Highness, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and her daughter, Mrs Zara Tindall.

‘Her Royal Highness was touched that you had thought to knit these mufflers for her and her family and I am sure they will be very useful, particularly at her home in Gloucester.

‘Thank you again, and The Princess sends you her sincerest thanks and best wishes for the future.’

According to Royal Central, Lily and her family are ‘delighted’ with the response and are glad that Princess Anne is enjoying her handmade gifts.
