Princess Charlene, 44, and her husband Prince Albert were joined by their twin children Gabriella and Jacques to attend church in Monte Carlo for National Day on Saturday.

Monaco’s Royal Palace went on to release a number of images from the event, including one which showed Charlene watching over her children as they stood on a balcony and waved to those below.

Meanwhile in another image, Charlene could be seen offering her son, and the heir-to-the-throne Jacques, a hug.

The event marked the first time Prince Jacques had worn an official uniform, and he was pictured beaming at the camera with his hand held in a smart salute.

Meanwhile Princess Gabriella showed off her elegant red coat and fascinator alongside her brother as she posed with her hand on her hip.

The little girl was dressed in a smart red coat for the occasion, but finished off her outfit with her mother’s black fascinator by designer Gallia e Peter for Akris.

National Monaco Day is also known as The Sovereign Prince’s Day, and the date of the celebration is chosen by the reigning Prince.

Traditionally, the Princes chose the day of the saint they are named after.

But when Prince Albert inherited the title, he decided to choose the same day as his father rather than the day of Saint Albert, which would have been November 15.

It is typically celebrated with fireworks over the harbour the evening before, and a mass in Monte Carlo the next morning.

Charlene opted for a long, white coat for Monaco’s National Day, worn over a high-neck black dress. She also donned a pair of black leather gloves.

She completed her monochrome ensemble with a black, wide-brim hat and simple pearl drop earrings. The royal kept her make-up classic for the occasion.

Her husband, Prince Albert, was in formal attire, with a number of opulent medals embellishing the front of his jacket – which was embroidered with red and gold.

The pair were seated with Princess Caroline of Hanover and Princess Stephanie of Monaco for the ceremony, which is celebrated on November 19 each year.

The annual charity distribution is part of a number of events organised by the Red Cross in the run up to Christmas in Monaco and sees members of the princely family gift presents to people in need.

The event saw members of the princely family speak to some of the Red Cross volunteers who took part in the gift distribution.

They also listened to the story of vulnerable people who were stocking up on gifts ahead of Christmas.
