Princess Mary attends UN conference in New York

It’s been a busy few days for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who is currently in New York for a whirlwind three day trip to attend the UN General Assembly.

The 45-year-old royal, who has attended a series of events and meetings in connection with the GA, was snapped with the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, on Monday at a conference.

The effortlessly elegant royal donned a chic white dress and nude pumps for the occasion, where she spoke on the theme of ‘Rebuilding shattered lives and communities: The the Chibok and Yazidi girls and women’.

As the meeting continued, the Princess appeared to listen intently to the passionate speakers as they delivered their own addresses on topics close to her heart.

The Crown Princess is a protector of the UN’s Population Fund, UNFPA, an international development organisation that promotes women’s, men’s and children’s right to health and equity.

As a result, she is dedicated to working towards women’s and children’s rights and the elimination of poverty in some of the world’s most poverty stricken areas.

Earlier in the day, the mother-of-four delivered a speech at the Deliver for Good: Inspiring SDG Action for Girls and Women conference, which was held by Women Deliver and its partners.

She also participated in the launch of the UNFPA’s book – the princess having written the preface to it – which is about a number of 15-year-old girls who have become mothers.

Following the UN conference, the dedicated royal then headed to the opening of a Danish jewellery store in Manhattan and visited a Danish health food store.

On Tuesday she will be just as busy, with visits to the Global Goals World Cup and another Women Deliver event on women’s rights and health where she will hand over Canada as the new host country for the 2019 Women Deliver Conference.

Between raising her four children and appearing at scheduled events, Princess Mary serves as patron for some 25 international organisations.

This includes the United Nations Population Fund, where she supports their work to promote maternal health in more than 150 developing nations and several Danish non-government organisations including Maternity Worldwide and the Danish Refugee Council.
