A young private investigator who gets paid to expose love rats has revealed the extreme lengths she goes through to catch a cheater – and the infidelity signs to watch out for if you suspect your partner is having an affair.

Natalija, from Sydney, has been carrying  out surveillance on unfaithful husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends for seven years.

The 28-year-old private investigator said she tracks them to a lover’s house, or sits outside their home, office or pub in her car for long hours while watching them through her binoculars.

And when she catches them in the act, Natalija starts filming with her camera so she could use it as evidence to show her client.

With years of experience under her belt, Natalija said a tell-tale sign of infidelity all starts with changes to their routines.

What are signs your partner is cheating?

– Small behavioural changes

– Phone and credit bills go missing

– Staying back at work more often

– Travelling or going out more

– They put uncharacteristic distance down to being ‘stressed at work’

– They get defensive when you ask about what they were doing

‘[Women] should also be wary if he’s spending more time on his phone and placing it face down so the screen’s covered,’ Natalija told Take 5 magazine.

While she’s discreet most of the time on the job, Natalija said she has been caught in the past after she followed a person she suspected was on the way to see a lover.

‘Of course, there have been times when the person I’m following has cottoned on to what I’m up to,’ she said.

Natalija said one of her cases, she followed a man into a hotel to see whether he was having an affair with another woman when she accidentally took a photo of him with her flash on.

On another occasion, a woman she was following ended up on her tail after she realised what Natalija was up to.

Natalija said she even climbed up a wall of a property just so she could catch an elderly man who remarried a woman half his age having a fling with his lover.

In other cases, Natalija said when she told her clients about the shocking affair she uncovered, some of them refused to believe her.

‘Once, I’d been watching a married man having an affair and had plenty of images and footage of him and his mistress as proof, but the wife wouldn’t believe me,’ Natalija said.

‘At times like this, there’s nothing I can do. My job is to uncover the truth, not convince them to accept it.’

But despite this, Natalija said she loves her job and the ‘buzz’ it gives her when she discovers the truth for her clients.

Five ‘tests’ to set your partner if you suspect they’re being unfaithful

Having a heart-to-heart is always the best option, but if you don’t think they are being honest with you there are some tests you can set to look for evidence.

1. The body language test

Show up at their work at lunchtime and see what their reaction is. Are they rushing through, distracted, uncomfortable?

2. The phone test

Get a mutual friend or family member to call your spouse, chat to them and then ask to speak to you.

You then walk around and leave the room to talk to them, and whilst you’re out of the room, you can quickly check their phone: so texts, calls and emails. But you have to make sure that your partner is on their phone at the time so it’ll be unlocked.

3. Their location

Download a phone finding app, such as ‘Find my phone’ on their phone, call them when they’re out and check to see if where they say they are is true or not. If they are at a different place to what they tell you, investigate!

4. Get an STI test

Get yourself an STI test if you’re sexually active with them. If you’re not, wait until they go to the bathroom and before they flush, shout urgently for them to come to you. This would distract them enough to not flush the toilet, which you can then take a urine sample out of and send off for an STI test.

5. Scent

If they come home late and you’ve think this is when they’ve been cheating, rush up to them as soon as they walk in the door. You can kiss or hug them and try to detect any unusual scents and check their pockets. If your spouse tries to push you away, they feel guilty and it may be time to look for any suspicious receipts, phone bills or bank statements.
