Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas cuddle up with ceremonial candles in London as they celebrate Hindu festival of lights Diwali

Priyanka Chopra rang in the Hindu holiday Diwali this Saturday in London with her husband Nick Jonas.

In a picture she posted to Instagram the 38-year-old Bollywood icon wore a floral sari in fiery red and orange tones, perfectly suited to the ‘festival of lights.’

Both she and her husband were holding diyas, the ceremonial ceramic candles that are lit for Diwali, which is the biggest holiday in the Hindu calendar.

‘Happy diwali to everyone celebrating. From our family to yours,’ Priyanka captioned her picture, where she wore an ornate pair of earrings designed in the Indian style.

In Hindu mythology Diwali marks the day when Ram, incarnation of the god Vishnu, returned home after rescuing his kidnapped wife from the demon king Ravan.

Nick and Priyanka have been celebrating multiple holidays in the Hindu festive season – last week they rang in Karva Chauth together.

Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival in which married women traditionally fast from sunrise to moonrise for their husbands’ long lives.

In recent years some couples have adjusted to the changing times by having both spouses keep the fast, but it is not known whether Nick did so.

Before ringing in Karva Chauth in Los Angeles and Diwali in London, Priyanka was seen dashing off to spend some time in Berlin.

Although she did not publicly specify what she was doing in Germany there were rumors she was filming the fourth Matrix movie there, PinkVilla reports.

Priyanka and Nick also celebrated Holi, the festival of colors, at a Bollywood party in Bombay this March shortly before India went into coronavirus lockdown.

Their hostess was Priyanka’s bridesmaid Isha Ambani – whose father is the richest man in Asia – and her husband Anand Piramal, himself the son of a billionaire.

Isha and Anand, who married in December 2018 just two weeks after Priyanka and Nick, famously hired Beyonce for a private performance at their wedding functions.

Meanwhile Priyanka, who spent part of her adolescence in America, was familiar with western holidays before meeting Nick but found they had a whole new meaning for her once she became integrated into his family.

‘I mean, it’s culturally it’s so different I guess, but they are so embracive of everything here,’ Priyanka said on the Indian talk show Koffee With Karan just after her wedding.

‘For me, it’s culturally different when I go to, you know, his family and like doing Thanksgiving, which we used to do just for fun and now it’s like, it’s important.’

The Quantico star added: ‘You know, so things like that I’m also learning, and it’s fun. It’s like a cultural exchange, I guess.’
