Priyanka Chopra steps away from her New York City restaurant Sona to ‘broaden her ambitions’

Priyanka Chopra has announced that she is parting ways with her New York City restaurant Sona.

The 41-year-old actress – who just shared photos from husband Nick Jonas’ tour – has been a partner in Sona since it opened in 2021. 

She’s is stepping away and a representative revealed that she will now be focusing on other aspirations.

According to People, a rep stated, ‘Priyanka has stepped away from her partnership at Sona. Bringing Sona to life will invariably be a proud and significant moment in her career.’

The note continued, ‘Priyanka has always endeavored to bring Indian culture to the fore through storytelling, whether that’s via engaging content for film and TV, or a beautifully plated dish that embodies the haute cuisine of India.’

‘Stepping away from Sona allows her to broaden these ambitions on a more global scale, and she’s excited about the possibilities that await,’ the person added. 

Despite Priyanka severing ties, the eatery will remain open. 

Maneesh K. Goyal, Sona co-founder ans Jonas’ friend and former business partner, told the outlet that working with the star ‘has been a dream come true.’

‘We’re grateful for her partnership and support,’ he noted in a statement, adding, ‘While she will no longer be involved as a creative partner moving forward, she remains in the Sona family and we are excited for our respective new chapters ahead.’

Sona launched two years ago, while Covid-19 restrictions were still active.

The name of the restaurant translates to ‘gold’ in Hindi and was suggested by Chopra’s husband Nick Jonas.

The restaurant serves up dishes that representative of various regions of the Indian subcontinent.

Food items on the menu include paneer tikka and Goan fish curry.

When the establishment opened, Goyal described Chopra Jonas as the ‘creative force’ behind the business.

He added that the business-minded actress contributed to vital details such as design, menu and music.

‘Priyanka has her fingerprints all over Sona,’ he declared back in 2021.

The superstar gushed about her musician husband in her latest Instagram post, writing, ‘You are a magnet @nickjonas MM and I are so lucky to have you. Congratulations on the start of an incredible tour.’
