Pro wrestler CM Punk faces backlash over controversial post as one fan tells him ‘you’ve ruined my month’

A professional wrestler is facing brutal backlash from fans after posting a pro-Palestine message on his Instagram.

CM Punk shared a series of images to the social media platform on Sunday which included a picture of a white wall with the words ‘Free Palestine’ spray painted in red.

Among the responses were a series of scathing reactions from some of his followers who were left fuming over his support for Palestine.

One angry fan took to the comments section to say the 45-year-old athlete had ‘ruined my month.’

‘I wanted to reach out because for years, you were one of my biggest inspirations. I’ve admired you for so long, and you were a role model to me. But after seeing your “Free Palestine” post, I felt deeply disappointed,’ he wrote to the WWE star.

‘Israel has so many fans who love you, but it seems that maybe you believe it’s more valuable to side with the other side,’ he wrote.

He added: ‘In short, Punk, you’ve let me down. You’ve ruined my month.’

Someone else said he ‘lost the human side of history.’

Another viewer simply told CM Punk: ‘You lost me in the last pic.’

One blunt fan pointed out that CM Punk shared his pro-Palestine sentiments just a day after Israeli forces discovered the bodies of six hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Captives identified as Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Master Sgt Ori Danino were among the more than 200 taken by Hamas militants on October 7.

The IDF said they all were ‘brutally’ murdered ‘a short while’ before troops were able to locate them.

‘You see this news and say “good job, I better support Hamas.” Get out of wrestling grandpa,’ the person wrote.

Yet another wrestling fan referenced a different popular wrestler, Jungle Boy, in his rebuke of CM Punk.

‘Jungle boy was right,’ the person wrote. ‘Cry me a river to the sea cause Israel will always be free.’

The ‘cry me a river’ line comes from a video where Jungle Boy, real name Jack Perry, indicates that the windshield of a car in the ring is made of real glass.

Later, Jungle Boy is thrown by his opponent into the glass, which shatters on his back.

CM Punk’s post did garner a number of supportive comments as well.

‘That last photo brought a smile to my face. One day we will have Liberation. Free Palestine,’ one person wrote.

Many others were calling him the GOAT (greatest of all time) and a legend for making this political stance.

This comes as CM Punk got his first victory in the WWE in over a decade, besting Drew McIntyre in Berlin.

He left the WWE in early 2014 due to disagreements with management but returned to the organization in 2023.
