Professor Green discusses his ‘not so perfect world’

He underwent a gruelling five hour hernia operation in April, which led to a string of complications including pneumonia, distension and a partially collapsed lung.

And Professor Green candidly discussed the difficult few months he has endured since the surgery on Tuesday, in an emotional Instagram post.

The rapper, 33, took to the site to share a shirtless photo with fans – admitting he looked and felt ‘like s**t’, and addressed the dangers of showing off an ‘unrealistic and perfect world’ on social media.

‘I look and feel like s**t’: Professor Green shared a shirtless snap to Instagram on Tuesday – and addressed the dangers of showing off an ‘unrealistic and perfect world’ on social media

In the snap the musician, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, is seen posing shirtless for a mirror selfie-  displaying his natural figure and tattoos for all to see.

Wanting to be honest with his fans, the Read All About It hitmaker accompanied the image with an emotional caption addressing his past battles – rather than promoting the all-too-common ‘perfect world’ on social media.

Smiling slightly at the camera, he wrote: ‘There’s no after pic yet, this is the beginning of the journey. People are shlags and only post a view into their (often unrealistic) ‘perfect world’.

‘I’ve been a shlag to all things bad; a shlag to my depression, a shlag to drink, a shlag to the sesh, a shlag to not creating, a shlag to distracting myself from the one thing that truly makes me happy – music. I’ve been a shlag to EVERYTHING NEGATIVE.’

He then went on to detail the difficulties he has faced over the last few months, including surgery for a hernia, which went awry back in April.

The star had undergone a gruelling five and a half hour surgery to fix three hernias, but was readmitted only days later due to a string of complications.

Confessing his health scare had set him back, in terms of confidence, appearance and his career, he explained: ‘After surgery going wrong this year it slumped me, I look and feel like s**t.

‘If I still look like this in 6 months then I’ve failed. If there hasn’t been a whole load of new music then I’ve failed. No one is going to sort me out for me, so I figured it’s probably time I did it for myself.’

Keeping the post light-hearted however, he went on to joke that he finally felt ready to get back in shape, stating: ‘I can’t have a dad bod without bl**dy having a kid first!’

He then assured fans that his best music was still to come, and that he is very grateful for their support and patience waiting for him to return to the industry.

He continued: ‘I can’t leave music behind knowing I haven’t peaked yet… the stuff I’ve started is the best yet – time to get it finished. Cheers for staying with me and being such loyal fans and friends, bless.’

Onwards: Yet he assured fans more music was to come following his lengthy break, adding: 'I can't leave music behind knowing I haven't peaked yet... the stuff I've started is the best yet'

The rapper has been notably distant from the music scene recently, following his recovery from the gruelling surgery.

At the time, Stephen had explain the extent of his ailments in another Instagram post – revealing he had suffered an extremely rare allergic reaction to the mesh used to fix the hernias.

He wrote: ‘I came back to hospital with pneumonia, a partially collapsed lung, distension, fluid build up and ileus (my guts had shut down). I’m getting better.

‘Everything is starting to work again, all my bloods are looking better and I finally got some sleep last night.’

The star, who was inundated with well-wishes from his fans, explained that he had been suffering from terrible pain and anxiety during his hospital stay, and likened the week to ‘torture’.

However, he has no doubt been supported by his girlfriend Fae Williams through the tough time, who he has been dating for almost one year.

The romance followed his February 2016 divorce from Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh – who is now engaged to former co-star Hugo Taylor.
