Oh dear: Prue Leith angered Who Wants To Be A Millionaire viewers on Sunday night after losing a whopping £48,00 for charity
After a stellar start, Prue found herself perplexed as host Jeremy Clarkson read the question: ‘Which of these senior crew members on RMS Titanic survived the sinking?’
The cake expert was given the following possible answers: ‘1st Officer William Murdoch, Chief designer Thomas Andrews, 2nd Officer Charles Lightoller or Captain Edward.’
With Prue unsure, she rang her phone-a-friend and nephew Sam, who told her that he was unsure, but added: ‘I’m fairly sure it wouldn’t be the captain-‘
Shock: The Great British Bake Off judge, 80, was a contestant on the celebrity version of the ITV show and had appeared to be doing quite well as she reached the £64,000
The call then got cut-off, with Prue then opting to use her 50/50 life line.
She was then left with two options – 2nd Officer Charles Lightoller or Captain Edward – with Prue opting to go for the latter despite her nephew’s advice.
Her answer was found to be incorrect and she lost a huge £48,000, plummeting her total winnings to just £16,000, which her safety net was set at.
And while Jeremy, 60, branded the round ‘a bit of a disaster’, viewers at home also expressed their shock at Prue’s answer, with many aghast that she didn’t realise the ‘captain always goes down with his ship’.
