Punchbowl fire: Man dies after fire engulfs unit in Sydney’s south-west

A 54-year old man has died in a devastating suburban Sydney house fire.

Emergency services rushed to a unit at Punchbowl, in the city’s south-west, at 10pm after neighbours raised the alarm.

Police and fire crews arrived to find the Highclere Avenue home already burning ferociously.

Despite receiving treatment from paramedics, the occupant could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police are appealing for help as they investigate the cause of a fatal house fire at Punchbowl in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday night

‘A 54-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene,’ NSW police said in a statement.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

They are appealing for anyone who has relevant information or video, including any from a home security system, to contact Bankstown police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
