Puppy worth up to £3,000 is dumped at a cemetery inside a box

A tiny puppy which could fetch thousands of pounds was dumped at a cemetery in a box marked ‘fragile’ during the UK’s heatwave.

Little Mia, a crossbreed with what appears to be a blue coat of hair, was found by a member of the public in Hanwell Cemetery, south London, on 23 July.

Blue coat dogs, which include the elite Basset Blue de Gasgogne, Puli, and Kerry Blue Terriers, can sell for up to £3,000.

Alongside the vulnerable pooch was a note explaining how the pup was only eight weeks old.

RSPCA Inspector Mike Beaman, investigating the incident, said: ‘This little pup was found with a blue blanket inside a white cardboard box marked “Fragile”.

‘She’d apparently been left in a cemetery. She was found at around lunchtime by a member of the public.

‘A short note was left with her explaining that she was eight-weeks-old, a crossbreed, and hadn’t had any vaccinations.

‘Goodness knows how long she’d been in that box in the cemetery but, in this heat, it’s incredible that she was okay.’

Mia is now being cared for by staff at RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital.

Inspector Beaman is keen to find out if anyone knows where she might have come from or if anyone saw anything suspicious in the area at the time.

He added: ‘It’s completely irresponsible to abandon a pup of this age in this way, particularly during this heatwave which is so dangerous for animals.’
