Qantas introduces pillow menu for long haul flyers

Australian airline Qantas has introduced a new ‘luxury sleep experience’ for flyers on some routes.

Announcing the launch with bedding company Sheridan, the airline said it was designed ‘exclusively’ for Qantas First Suites across its fleet of A380s – for those travelling from Sydney and Melbourne to London, Dubai, Los Angeles and Dallas Fort-Worth.

But with a first class trip between Sydney and London’s Heathrow with the airline costing around AU $10,000 one way in November, it’s an experience that doesn’t come cheap.

So what exactly do you get for your hard-earned cash?

According to the airline, Qantas and Sheridan are offering a ‘bespoke range of products’ which have been crafted using ‘natural, luxury materials in neutral and soft earthy tones to match the first class cabin interior’.

For the first time, customers will able to choose from a ‘pillow menu’ featuring a selection of three styles to suit different comfort needs.

While an ‘ultimate comfort pillow’ is placed on every first class seat prior to take off, a ‘memory foam pillow’ and ‘feather and down pillow’ are available on request, the airline said.

The ensemble also includes a memory foam mattress which moulds to the body’s contours for ‘total comfort and support’.

In addition to travellers being given their own selection of neutral-shaded pillows made from natural materials, there is an option for a cosy cotton baby blanket too

In addition, first class passengers can enjoy ‘super-soft Sheridan sheeting, a duvet cover made from soft-touch tencel, a 100 per cent combed-cotton woven throw and a soft-touch bolster cushion’.

Qantas Head of Customer Product and Service Development, Phil Capps, said a comfortable night’s sleep was one of the most important things for international travellers, and the new experience would give customers the ‘best chance at arriving well-rested’.

Sheridan Group General Manager, Paul Gould, previously said creating a beautiful night’s sleep was at the ‘heart’ of what the company does.
