Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain jet off to Angola

Queen Letizia and King Felipe IV of Spain looked harmonious as they wrapped up in matching black coats to jet off to Angola for a three-day state visit.

The Queen, 50, looked typically chic as she was joined by her husband, 54, and their entourage to board the flight.

The couple walked in step with one another as the red carpet was rolled out for their departure from Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

They are embarking on an official visit with the country’s Foreign Affairs minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, and will be returning on Wednesday.

This will be the couple’s first state visit to a sub-Saharan African country, and they will begin their official engagements there tomorrow.

The royals looked smart but comfortable for their flight, keeping cozy in woolen black winter coats.

With her stylish tie-up long coat, Letizia wore smart black trousers with leather boots featuring a practical low heel.

She accessorised the look with fashionable simple mini gold hoops earrings.

Meanwhile, her husband wore a traditional black suit, crisp white shirt and dress shoes.

Both of their almost entirely monochromatic outfits featured a small pop of colour, with Letizia’s jumper peeking out from her overcoat and Felipe’s tie breaking up the all-black ensemble.

His understated tie appeared to be white with a simple dark pink or red floral design.

Rarely shying away from vibrant looks, Letizia also managed to get a pop of colour into her outfit with a magenta polo neck jumper.

The Queen is a big fan of pink, and previously wore an entirely fuchsia ensemble as she visited a children’s hospital in Madrid.

Their official plane was covered in royal insignia, including flags bearing the King’s coat of arms.

They then scaled the stairs to embark the flight, shaking hands with a member of staff before jetting off.

They will be staying in Luanda, Angola’s capital, and will be hosted by the President, João Lourenço during their visit.

The Queen will spend time with Angolan First Lady Ana Afonso Dias Lourenço, who is a trained economist and keen promoter of women’s rights.

Felipe and Letizia were not joined by their daughters, 17-year-old Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Princess Infanta, 15, as they set off on the trip.
