Queen Letizia of Spain attends a journalism seminar in La Rioja

It was certainly a gloomier day in Spain on Tuesday with temperatures dropping and many areas receiving rain.

But Queen Letizia certainly brightened up Millan de la Cogolla in  La Rioja this morning.

The Queen of Spain looked typically chic in a raspberry coloured trench as she attended a journalism seminar.

Making a bold statement with her coat the 45-year-old royal kept the rest of her outfit simple, opting for a pair of skinny leather leggings, and a chic black top.

She expertly negotiated the Spanish cobbles in a pair of patent leather stilettos as she arrived at the Inauguration of the 13 edition International Seminar on Language and Journalism.   

The mother-of-two looked engaged as she spoke with other officials outside the monastery where the event was held before taking part in the seminar.

The royal hosted the seminar this afternoon with Spanish journalist Soledad Gallego- Díaz delivering the inaugural lecture.

The annual event is one that Letizia regularly attends having a history in the field of journalism herself.

Queen Letizia reported on international news events during her journalism career, including reporting from New York in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. 

She also worked for broadcasters including Bloomberg and TVE.

Letizia, who is mother to Princess Leonor, 12 and Princess Sofía, ten, swapped her journalism career for royal duties when she wed King Felipe VI in 2004.

She was previously married to Alonso Guerrero Pérez, a writer, but the pair divorced after just a year.
