Queen Letizia of Spain looked smart as she dressed down in a trench coat and trainers on a visit to Roncesvalles in Navarra today.  

She was joined by her husband King Felipe VI to mark the occasion of the Jacobean Year.

A Jacobean Year takes place when the 25th of July, Saint James’ Day, falls on a Sunday, and usually falls in a 6, 5, 6, 11 year pattern. 

The Spanish royal donned a beige trench coat and practical trainers for outing, which she paired with matching light linen trousers and a white shirt.

Mother-of-two Letizia, 48, wore her long, dark brunette tresses swept back from her face in a ponytail that revealed a pair of small hoop earrings.  

The royal couple carried pilgrim walking sticks with the sea shell strung onto them – a symbol of the Camino de Santiago – as they joined fellow walkers along the popular route.

She wore a simple slick of makeup, with just a dash of bronzer and a mascara and prioritised Covid safety precautions on her visit by covering her mouth and nose with a protective white face mask.

The couple sheltered under black umbrellas when it drizzled for part of their walk as they passed through the small village and church grounds in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.

They were joined by regional presidents including the President of Navarra, Maria Chivite, President of La Rioja, Concha Andreu, President of Galicia, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, President of Castilla y Leon, Alfonso Fernandez Manueco, and president of Cantabria, Miguel Angel Revilla.

It’s been a busy few days for Letizia who on last week stepped out at the inauguration of the 40th edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid as well as attending a meeting with the Abertis Foundation before taking a solo trip to the Unicef 75th Anniversary Exhibition in the Spanish capital.

Letizia, who is Honourary President of the UNICEF’s Spanish Committee, was attending an exhibition marking the organisation’s 75th anniversary. 

UNICEF operates in around 190 countries and territories, taking practical actions to reach excluded children.
