Queen Letizia of Spain’s daughters Leonor, 17, and Sofia, 16, ooze glamour in Girona

Queen Letizia’s daughters Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia took were the picture of poise as they attended an awards ceremony in Girona yesterday.

Princess Leonor, 17, and Infanta Sofía, 16, looked in high spirits as they went to the event at the Camiral Caldes de Malavella Hotel alongside their parents.

Princess Leonor, who is first in line to the Spanish throne, donned an elegant puff-sleeved teal dress.

She paired the flattering, pleated frock with metallic heels and wore her tresses in a simple low-ponytail, which showed off her glitzy diamond earrings.

The future Queen of Spain opted for more of a full-on makeup look, donning eyeliner, shimmery eyeshadow, and lip gloss.

Her sister, Sofia, wore a glittery silver short-sleeved gown which gathered at the waist.

Unlike her mother and sister, the teenager wore sparkly flat strappy sandals and wore her brown hair in a long plait.

Their mother, Queen Letizia, 50, showed off her slender figure in a simple back dress with a plunging neckline.

The outfit highlighted her toned biceps, as she clapped for others at the awards ceremony.

She also donned shiny heels which matched her metallic clutch bag and gold hoop earrings.

Like her eldest, Letizia also wore her hair in a low-ponytail and went for her signature makeup look, featuring smoky eyeshadow.

King Felipe, 55, looked smart in a suit and white striped shirt and chose to wear a teal tie that matched with Leonor’s outfit.

Leonor made a speech at the event, taking centre stage as she prepares for a life in the spotlight.

It has has an interest in identifying young people with talent who can act as role models for other young people – while launching programmes to improve their employability.

Perhaps the Spanish King wanted to tie his look in with his eldest to show the unity between the current and future monarch.

Leonor is set to start her military training before the end of the summer in August.

Whereas many of her peers will go off to university, the eldest daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia will return to Spain to begin training.

Spanish defence minister Margarita Robles confirmed Princess Leonor of Asturias’s next move earlier this year to society bible Tatler.

The training will include stints in the armed forces, the Spanish navy and the air force.

Speaking in March, Ms Robles confirmed: ‘In due course, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces will be a woman, and in recent years we have been making a very important effort to incorporate women into the armed forces.’

Although Infanta Sofia is still a royal, she does not hold the title of Princess as she is second born and therefore not the heir to the throne.

Before the awards ceremony yesterday, the royals listened to the presentation of the AmplificARTE project, which is an initiative of the Princess of Girona Foundation.

The family looked united as they all donned the colour blue as they focused intently on what was said.

The sibling duo made a rare joint appearance as they attended a workshop on innovation and creativity led by the Spanish chef Ferran Adrià in Gironda in the Galicia region of Spain yesterday.

Leonor and Sofia participated in the event without the supervision of their parents, suggesting they are one step further into becoming Spanish working royals.
