Queen Mary’s nephew Count Nikolai has revealed his shock opinion of Australia, after spending six months studying at the University of Technology in Sydney.
The Danish Royal Family member, 24, appeared on the latest cover of men’s lifestyle magazine GQ Hype and told the publication his surprising view.
‘When I think of Australians, I picture a mullet and a moustache, and very sporty, active people,’ he began.
‘Similar to Danes, we’re all quite laid back too. I think every Dane everywhere in the world finds Australia quite fascinating because it’s so far away, it’s quite exotic.’
However, he added that after spending several months living in Sydney in 2023 his preconceptions of life Down Under were drastically changed after some friends took him to the AFL to see the Swans play.

‘It was good fun. It was very entertaining seeing a new sport I hadn’t experienced before. Naturally, you back the home team and they won – they were behind, so it was a good comeback!’
The Copenhagen-native is expanding his modelling career and recently became the face of the Danish upmarket jewellery brand Georg Jensen.
Nikolai exuded confidence and style as he rocked his best angles in luxury Burberry fashion for his GQ photoshoot, and looked every inch the supermodel in training.
In March, Count Nikolai of Denmark launched a new Instagram account to promote his modelling career after being stripped of his ‘HRH’ status by his grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
It was a tumultuous year for the Danish Royal Family after the monarch controversially took the title from Prince Joachim’s eldest son, as well as also taking the prince and princess titles from his younger children Athena, 11, Prince Felix, 20, and Prince Henrik, 13.
In May, Australian Fashion Week was given the royal treatment when Nikolai made a surprise appearance.

The handsome royal, who is the eldest son of Prince Joachim and his first wife Alexandra, looked like he just stepped off the catwalk as he made his way into Carriageworks in Sydney flanked by his security detail.

Nikolai’s uncle is King Frederik X of Denmark, who is married to Tasmanian-born Queen Mary.
