Queen Maxima looks a treat in a multicolour floral skirt as she visits an art museum in Amsterdam

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands donned a vibrant outfit to visit the museum of modern art in Amsterdam today.

The Dutch royal, 50, headed to the Stedelijk Musuem, which displays modern and contemporary art, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Fonds Kwadraat, an art foundation which provides funding for art projects around the Netherlands.

For the occasion, Maxima opted for creative ensemble of a blue sweater tucked in a midi skirt layers in white, red and yellow, with floral detailing.

The mother-of-three looked in great spirits as she defied the Amsterdam drizzle and headed to the event, which aims to connect artists with professionals from the art world and art lovers.

Maxima stepped out wearing the tasteful garment, while a bodyguard gallantly held an umbrella out for her.

She was wearing a dark cyan sweater which was tucked into her skirt, its long sleeve her only cover from the September breeze.

Her skirt was a piece of art in its own right, adorned with layers and beads in yellow, red, cyan and pink.

Maxima, who is known to love colourful numbers, paired the skirt and top with a red beret, matching stiletto heels, and recycled a red clutch bag she wore yesterday at another engagement.

Her blonde locks were styled in a straight blow-dry and tucked behind her ears under a red beret which revealed beautiful silver hoop earrings.

The Dutch Queen was still wearing the splint that was seen on her wrist in September following an injury, as well as bright red gloves.

Smiling with her usual warmth, Maxima sported a bold red lip and a glamourous makeup to the daytime event.

A dash of eyeshadow and mascara and a splash of bronzer completed her look.

The Fonds Kwadraat was created 50 years ago in 1971, and aims to finance art projects by providing interest-free loans to artists.

Since its creation, the independent foundatio has financed around 1,800 projects for a total amount of almost 6,500,000 euros.

Yesterday, Maxima sported another colourful outfit as she travelled to Rotterdam’s City Hall to mark the 40th anniversary of the Foundation Halt, a non-profit organisation tackling youth offences.

The organisation puts together short-term interventions to prevent and combat petty crimes such as vandalism, shop-lifting and more, and is responsible for administering sentences.

For the occasion, Maxima, a mother-of-three teenagers, sported an eye-catching leopard print dress with red accessories.

She looked resplendent in the flowing midi dress which had a loose fit and was cinched at the waist.

She gave the dress’s modern print a kick by picking red accessories, sporting crimson velvet stilettos and a matching bag.
