Queen Olivia II! The FIRST picture of The Crown’s new monarch in all her finery emerges

Queen Olivia II! She ruled the Oscars, now she rules the Commonwealth… as the FIRST picture of The Crown’s new monarch in all her finery emerges

  •  Olivia Colman has succeeded Claire Foy as Queen in third series of The Crown
  •  Colman, 45, won a Best Actress Oscar for playing Queen Anne in The Favourite
  •  The third series of The Crown will be released on Netflix later this year

With her smiling face framed by a familiar tiara-topped coiffure and her gloved fingers interlaced, Olivia Colman’s transformation is complete.

But having been crowned the queen of Hollywood last week, it’s perhaps no surprise she looks the part.

Colman, 45, won a Best Actress Oscar for playing Queen Anne in The Favourite – and here she is pictured for the first time as another monarch, our current Queen, in the eagerly awaited third series of The Crown.

The Netflix series is set to be released later this year. Colman has succeeded Claire Foy as the Queen, while Tobias Menzies – pictured with her – now plays the Duke of Edinburgh. The pair were filming an episode focused on Sir Anthony Blunt, the Queen’s art adviser who confessed in 1964 that he was a Russian spy.

Colman has described The Crown role as one of her most difficult to date ‘because everyone knows what she looks like, everyone knows what she sounds like, everyone has an opinion on whether the casting is right’.
