Queensland Rail releases clips of ‘drunk’ patrons

Queensland Rail have released a blooper reel, showing off footage of apparently drunk patrons making fools of themselves at train stations around the state.

Footage shows one man race into a train station before reaching the top and falling, smashing what appears to be the remnants of a six-pack of beers.

He picks himself back up, but as he moves to the top of the stairs at his platform, he slips again, further damaging the contents of his shopping bag.

The man sits for some time, clearly angry with himself, gesticulating furiously into the air, before picking up what is left of his drinks and stumbling on to the platform.

Another is seen trying to jump the barriers at another train station, and failing, in full view of a guard.

On his final attempt, he falls backwards on to the ground, and attempts to escape the painfully embarrassing situation by running down an upwards moving escalator.

Unfortunately, his plan is thwarted, and he soon receives a visit from police as he sits back on the platform.

The humorous series of clips come with a serious message though. Many of the seemingly intoxicated patrons are seen falling on stairs, on to platforms, and in one case, on to the tracks.

One person is seen wobbling back and forth as they stand on the platform, before they stumble forward and fall straight in the path of an oncoming train.

Other passengers race to help him, as officials gesture wildly for the train to stop.

The person eventually picks themselves up, and with the assistance of a group of others on the platform, is able to be pulled to safety.

From another angle, the panic caused to other commuters is almost tangible.

New Year’s revellers are urged to watch themselves and stay safe while using public transport to get around this festive season, and to look out for their mates.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Easy said more than 600 people tripped, slipped or fell at train stations during 2017 and travellers needed to look out for themselves and their mates during the festive period.

‘While these incidents can seem humorous, this vision is a stark reminder of how easily alcohol can affect you, causing you to act in ways you usually wouldn’t or lose your footing. In an active train station environment you’re multiplying your risk of serious injury, he said in a statement.

‘With trains weighing up to 120 tonnes regularly passing through platforms without the ability to instantly brake or swerve to avoid you, train stations are no place to take risks with your safety.’
