Queensland stars’ WAGs and families blow up over State of Origin snub by NSW Blues at Accor Stadium

Queensland stars’ WAGs and families blow up over State of Origin snub that saw them cop ‘petty’ seating insult at game three

  • Maroons won the Origin series
  • Lost game III in Sydney
  • Queensland families not happy

The families and WAGs of Queensland State of Origin stars have reportedly complained about the seats they were allocated for game three after event organisers put them near New South Wales supporters.

Partners, friends and families of the series-winning Maroons were apparently not impressed that they didn’t get their own section to watch the Blues maul Queensland 24-10 at Accor Stadium.

Triple M in Sydney has reported that the Cane Toads were ‘seriously unhappy’ that organisers seated them behind the New South Wales bench.

Usually the friends and families get to sit behind the team they support, but that was not the case at Accor Stadium, the radio station reported.

‘Queensland team’s [families] are all in behind the New South Wales bang smack in the middle of all the New South Wales families,’ Triple M’s Ben Dobbin said.

‘And Cam Munster’s family, I don’t know what this is about, they’ve been put over the other side with a couple of others, so they aren’t even all together which has never been the case.

‘I know it’s petty but they are all so upset because Queensland has always done their captain’s run at 4pm and they got bumped yesterday, they got an email [from NSW] saying no, no, no, we’re going at 4pm and you have to go at 1pm.

‘They are not happy. They seriously are not happy.

‘I’m looking at Nicole Slater [wife of Maroons coach Billy Slater] at the moment and she’s deadset sitting right behind the New South Wales bench all surrounded by New South Wales fans and obviously family members.

‘I might try and see how upset she is about it. Queensland is clearly upset about it.’

Triple M commentator Dan Ginnane suggested the move was a return of serve after Blues friends and families got put in the cheap seats at Suncorp Stadium for game two.

‘This really is pettiness personified. Aren’t the Blues p***ed off because they were put in a box at the 10-metre line at Suncorp [for game two]?’ Ginnane asked.

‘Some of the board members were shunted because they couldn’t watch the game from the halfway line in their blazers, so they were peeved off.

‘Dobbo, this is clearly a returning of serve.’

One fan adopted the Barmy Army’s Ashes sledge, posting: ‘Same Old Queensland, Always Whinging.’

‘You spelled winning wrong. Whose [sic’ holding the shield,’ replied another.

‘Pay for your seats like everyone else,’ another fumed.

Queensland wrapped up the series in two matches to win the State of Origin Shield for the 24th time.
