Queensland: two unknown lucky punters win $3.3 million in Gold Lotto $40 million draw

Two Aussies celebrating New Year’s Eve still don’t know they’re multi-millionaires after winning the life-changing prize on the last day of 2022

  • Twelve Australians won more than $3.3 million in the Gold Lotto Megadraw
  • Identity of two punters remains unknown, but bought tickets in Queensland
  • Winning numbers were 11, 23, 35, 42, 20 and 45, with supplementary 8 and 38

Two lucky punters have started the new year as multi-millionaires after buying winning tickets in the lotto – but they don’t even know it yet.

A dozen players shared the division one jackpot around Australia in the $40 million Gold Lotto draw on Saturday, each winning $3.3 million.

There were four each in Queensland and Victoria, three in NSW, and one in Western Australia.

Four Queenslanders including a man from Forest Lake and a mum from Loganholme celebrated new years after realising they had won.

The Forest Lake man said he did not get a wink of sleep after checking his ticket and realising he had become a multi-millionaire.

‘Normally I don’t really check my ticket straight away, but on Saturday night I thought I’d have a quick look,’ he told an official from The Lott.

‘Then I started scrolling, and I could see all six numbers lit up. We didn’t get much sleep that night. We just couldn’t believe it. It’s pretty surreal. What a New Year’s Eve present!’

The Brisbane resident said the prize money was life-changing for he and his wife as they plan to pay off their mortgage and help their children get ‘a foot up in life’.

The Loganholme woman who had bought two tickets in the $40 million draw said she won $35 on one and scored $3.3 million on the other.

‘At first, I checked another ticket, and I won $35 on that,’ she explained.

‘I was pretty happy with that. Then I checked this ticket! It was a nice surprise! A good way to start the New Year.’

The mum said she had yet to decide what she would do with her millions, but before winning wanted to pay off her house and change careers.

However, two lucky Queenslanders have yet to come forward with their winning tickets.

The two winning entries were sold at Nextra Orion, Shop 29, 1 Main Street in Orion Springfield, and Julia Creek News on Burke Street in Julia Creek.
