Quickfire with celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington

Guilty pleasure? Watching The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

Where is home? I am fortunate to have homes in London, Kent, Mykonos and St Tropez. Wherever my head hits the pillow is home.

Career plan B? Before going into hairdressing, I trained to be an architect, which has remained a passion.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Eddie Redmayne would be a flattering choice.

Biggest bugbear? Rudeness, unkindness and bad manners.

As a child you wanted to be… A professional water-skier. I learned to water-ski on family holidays in North Wales and became quite good.

Secret to a happy relationship? Honesty, laughter and love.

Your best quality? Making people feel good about themselves.

And your worst? I love cooking, but I’m a bit messy and leave a mountain of washing-up.

Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? Present my partner, Allan, with a photograph of an american cocker spaniel puppy that I had bought him.

Last meal on earth? Fillet steak, chips and a glass of champagne, which is my staple Friday night dinner.

Dream dinner-party guests? My friends Jerry Hall, Joan Collins, Tracey Emin, Bruno Tonioli and Davina McCall would be perfect.

Advice to teenage self? It’s a great thing to travel.

Cat or dog? We had many happy years with our two american cocker spaniels, Sammy and Baxter.

On a day off we’d find you… On the King’s Road, Chelsea, which is my favourite haunt. I’ve been going there since I was a teenager.

Starstruck moment? Being serenaded by Diana Ross at the Met Ball in New York. She came off stage, sat on my knee and sang ‘Baby Love’.

Career highlight? Receiving an MBE in 2006 for services to hairdressing and the Look Good Feel Better charity.

Red-carpet highlight? Doing the hair for Sharon Stone and Sarah Jessica Parker at the Baftas.

Most embarrassing moment? Accidentally cutting the fringe of the actress Alice Eve’s hair, when I was supposed to be cutting into a wig she was wearing.

Favourite tipple? Whisky sour.

Hangover cure? Prevention is better than cure, so don’t mix your drinks. Have a litre of water before bed.

What did you have for breakfast today? A toasted bagel with bacon, egg and haggis.

Top of your bucket list? Visiting the Galápagos Islands would be an amazing adventure.

One thing that would make your life better? A classic 1930s sailing yacht.

Philosophy? Make every day special.

Worst job you’ve ever done? Working as a waiter on roller-skates in a busy Miami nightclub.

Where would you time travel to? The Swinging 60s, when there were so many radical changes in hair, fashion and music.

First record you bought? Aladdin Sane by David Bowie.

Most extravagant purchase? A 1959 white Mercedes 230SL Pagoda convertible.

Biggest fear? Having to manage my own diary instead of my amazing PA Katie doing it.

Celebrity crush? Whitney Houston, who was the most extraordinary talent.

Happiness is… Sharing life’s journey with your soulmate.
