Rachel Bilson praises ex-fiancé Hayden Christensen for co-parenting nine-year-old daughter Briar: ‘Everything’s in a really good place’

Rachel Bilson is happily co-parenting with ex-fiance Hayden Christensen some seven years after deciding to separate.

The 42-year-old alum of The O.C. – who previously opened up about being shamed by Whoopi Goldberg – talked candidly about sharing nine-year-old daughter Briar with the 43-year-old Star wars actor in an interview with People magazine published on Friday.

 She said: ‘Everything’s good. Everything’s in a really good place.

‘She is so beautifully flourishing and has the support completely surrounding her from every side.’

With her 10th birthday, on October 29, fast approaching, the actress couldn’t resist sharing a few details about their little girl and how fast she seems to be growing up, which is something their daughter has been trying to avoid.

‘Oh, my God, it’s crazy. She does not want to get old,’ the Los Angeles native said of Briar. ‘She likes being young. She’s not one of those kids that just wants to speed it up and have a car and all that.’

The proud mom also shared that her favorite part about watching Briar grow up is seeing her transform into a generous, kind person.

‘You know what I love? She is kind and that’s the best thing that you can hear or want for your kid,’ Bilson gushed at the launch party for the new The O.C. x 21Seeds Campaign. 

She added, ‘And even other parents have shared that and that makes me very proud.’

Bilson went on to reveal that she and Briar have a very close and loving relationship that’ at times can resemble a friendship.

‘It’s so crazy, we’re pretty inseparable. We have a very, very close relationship. We’re not usually ever apart for long,’ she confessed to the publication. ‘And she talks to me. She is very open and will talk to me about things or what kids say at school or whatever it is, or, “I felt sad.” It’s just really nice that we have that dialogue.’ 

Bilson and Christensen first met when they were hired to star together in the science fiction action film Jumper, which began production in 2006, with Doug Liman serving as the director, who worked from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Jim Uhls, and Simon Kinberg.

Along with Christensen and Bilson, the cast also featured Jamie Bell, Michael Rooker, AnnaSophia Robb, Max Thieriot, Diane Lane, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Bilson first met the father of her daughter, Hayden Christensen, in 2006 when they were hired to star in the lead roles of science fiction action film Jumper

Many fans know Bilson for her role as Summer Roberts in the prime-time drama series, The O.C.; she is seen with co-stars Adam Brody, Mischa Barton, and Benjamin McKenzie in 2003

Jumper went on to become at hit at the worldwide box office, grossing $225.1 million while working with a budget of $85 million. 

By January 2008, a month before the premiere of jumper, the pair had been seen and photographed together around Los Angeles for nearly a year without ever confirming their relationship.

She would eventually be seen while out in the public wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring.

They went on to get engaged, which was confirmed by Bilson’s representative in August 2010, only to follow that up by announcing their separation just three months later.

They would ultimately rekindle their romance and get back together for three more years; long enough to welcome Briar in October 2014, who’s their only child together.

But ultimately, Bilson and Christensen separated for good in September 2017.
