Rachel Sennott details ’embarrassment’ at being arrested for carrying CBD

Rachel Sennott was arrested recently and she wishes she had a better story to tell about it.

‘I was arrested for CBD in the Cayman Islands, which is embarrassing,’ Sennott, 29, told Jimmy Fallon on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday.

‘It’s actually sad. You want to be arrested for something cool. You want to be arrested for like, protesting, shoplifting, something awesome. To be arrested for CBD is like, ‘This is a little pathetic.’ she joked.

The Shiva Baby star admitted the arrest was ‘totally my fault’ as she failed to ‘look into the international travel laws’ before taking her Mom Grass – a CBD product that i legal in the U.S. across the border.

Rachel – who has a comedy pilot in development at HBO –was pulled aside to have her bags searched and when they found the CBD, she was detained.

‘They arrest me, they take my phone and my passport’ Sennott recalled, noting that the one phone call she was allowed to make had to be to someone in the Cayman Islands.

‘I unfortunately have yet to make friends in the Cayman Islands,’ she deadpanned.

The Bottoms star was traveling separately from her friend so she basically had no option but to sit and wait and ‘hangout with the people who arrested’ her.

‘Honestly, super chill vibes,’ she said before relating the story that the border patrol officers looked her up and started watching clips from her 2023 film Bottoms.

‘They’re like, “This isn’t for us,”‘ she said. ‘Obviously, it’s not for you. You’re a border patrol officer, this is for teenage lesbians.’

Sennott didn’t have to wait long before her assistant Claire realized something was wrong when she couldn’t get ahold of her.

She called the hotel, and when she hadn’t checked in yet, the hotel told her Sennott had ‘probably been detained,’ prompting Claire to call Sennott’s lawyer.

Rachel waved to her assistant and her parents in the audience and noted it was the first time they’d heard about the arrest.

‘I got a mugshot. I asked for it, they wouldn’t send it,’ she said. ‘Just imagine I look incredible.’

Sennott next appears in Saturday Night as Rosie Shuster — the SNL writer and then-wife of Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels.

‘This is my first time in a movie being like chill,’ she joked to People. ‘I’m never chill. I’m always having a panic attack. And in real life, I’m always having a panic attack.’

‘So, it’s so freeing to step into someone who’s so confident, and in control. And so, I hope she likes it, and feels seen.

‘But I just wanted to share her story with people, because I feel like she’s such an integral part in making SNL what it is today,’ she continued. ‘And I don’t know if everyone is familiar with her, so, I’m excited for them to see that.’
