Rachel Zegler made headlines earlier this year with her staunch pro-Palestine views amid the press tour for the Snow White remake.

Controversy engulfed the Disney production after it was reported its producer, Marc Platt, had flown to New York to ‘reprimand’ Rachel for her comments on the conflict.

And things later spiralled when his son Jonah appeared to call Rachel a ‘narcissist’ in an explosive rant on social media as he slammed her for forcing his dad ‘to leave his family’ to travel across the country to confront her.

But just weeks later, singer and actor Ben Platt, 31 – the son of Marc and younger brother of Jonah – diverted from his family’s pro-Israel position as he shared a post condemning ‘Israel’s bombardment of Gaza’.

And now, a social media interaction between Rachel and Pitch Perfect star Ben has hinted at a possible Platt family feud as a result of their differing views.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Ben shared the tragic news that his dog had died, under which Rachel commented: ‘My heart. Babe. I’m so sorry. I love you.’ The comment was liked by Ben.

The actor and singer recently shared a post where he said his Jewish identity ‘is not defined by the state of Israel’ and that he has felt ‘alienated’ by the community.

Ben also support for Palestinian student activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was arrested and detained in March for his role in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University.

Taking to his Instagram Story last month, Ben shared a speech from Jewish actress Hannah Einbinder, where she said: ‘My queerness is a tradition of social justice, as is my Judaism. To me these are traditions of humanity, of care for human life. All human life, equally.’

Commenting on the speech, Ben wrote: ‘As a queer Jew whose connection to Judaism is cultural, emotional and interpersonal and is not defined by the state of Israel, I have felt long alienated from this conversation and from a lot of people in my earliest community who feel differently, sometimes to a dogmatic extent.

‘I just wanted to thank @hannaheinbinder for speaking directly and with heart in a way that made me feel seen and hopeful.’

In August, Snow White star Rachel shared a post thanking fans for their support over Snow White, as she wrote: ‘I love you all so much! Thank you for the love and for 120m views on our trailer in just 24 hours! What a whirlwind. I am in the thick of rehearsals for Romeo + Juliet so I’m gonna get outta here. Bye for now.’

She also showed her support for Palestine amid the horrors in Gaza in the same thread, adding: ‘And always remember, free Palestine.’

The Snow White press tour back in March was plagued by rumours of a ‘feud’ between Rachel and her co-star, Israeli actress Gal Gadot – thought to be connected to their opposing views on the conflict in the Middle East.

The Platt family were then thrust to the forefront of the drama earlier this year after it was reported Marc had confronted Rachel after her political post, before Jonah’s public take down of her.

A Variety article published amid the tour detailed how, in light of her Free Palestine remark, an executive raised the studio’s concerns with Rachel’s team, and Marc, the film’s producer, flew to New York to speak with the actress, who strongly refused to take the post down.

Things further escalated when nepo baby Jonah, who is Marc’s eldest child, took to Instagram in a now-deleted post to brand Rachel ‘immature’ and insinuate she has ‘narcissistic’ tendencies.

In the wake of the article published by Variety, which stated that Marc had flown cross country to speak to the actress about her social media posts, one fan left a comment on Jonah’s Instagram.

It read: ‘Your dad flew to NYC to reprimand a young actress? Any words on this?

‘Cuz that’s creepy as hell and uncalled for. People have the right to free speech no? Shame on your father.’

Jonah fired back an angry rant which began: ‘You really want to do this?

‘Yeah, my dad, the producer of the enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicly for.’

The host of the Being Jewish Podcast continued, accusing Rachel of being the reason Snow White flopped as he said her actions ‘clearly’ hurt the film’s box office.

‘Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions,’ he continued.

‘Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful.’

‘Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,’ Jonah concluded his explosive rant.

Jonah was quickly slammed for his response online by many users who then commented on the heated exchange.

‘”Had to leave his family” is a crazy thing to say about a 67-year-old billionaire with adult children,’ one user wrote.

‘Momma Platt holding 38-year-old Jonah and 31-year-old Ben in her arms: “You’re going to see HER again aren’t you, while I’m here raising our babies,”‘ joked another.

It was believed to be over their opposing views on the years-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict; Gal – who is currently in London filming Amazon MGM’s upcoming thriller The Runner – is notably from Israel.

It was later revealed by Variety that Disney chose to ‘scale back’ the movie’s LA premiere, limiting coverage to photographers and a house crew.

Controversy surrounded the remake of the classic cartoon as the studio has given it a politically correct revamp. In 2022 Rachel supported the contemporary take on the story, telling Vanity Fair in 2022, ‘It needed that.’

Peter Dinklage weighed in, slamming Disney for remaking what he called a ‘f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.’

Amid the backlash, the large scale premiere meant to be held at Leicester Square in London was cancelled.

‘Disney are already anticipating an anti-woke backlash against Snow White and have reduced the media schedule to just a handful of tightly controlled press events,’ a source told People.

It was added: ‘That is why they have taken the highly unusual step not to host a London premiere for the film and are minimising the amount of press questions that Rachel Zegler gets.’
