Radio host Abbie Chatfield celebrates as Labor claims victory in NSW state elections after encouraging her fans to vote: ‘Bye Libs!’

Abbie Chatfield is delighted by the results of the NSW state election.

The radio host posted to Instagram Stories on Saturday night, sharing a post that read, ‘Meet your new premier, Chris Minns’.

The 29-year-old captioned the image with a simple statement, writing, ‘Bye Libs!’ referring to the outgoing Liberal party.

It comes as Dominic Perrottet announces he will step down as the leader of the NSW Liberal Party on the back of Chris Minns’ landslide victory in the state election.

The 43-year-old dad-of-three will be the state’s 47th premier, in what is being hailed an historic win for his party after 12 years in the political wilderness.

Millions of residents turned out across the state to place their votes, contending with both rain and sunshine at different stages throughout the day.

The party is expected to secure a majority.

Mr Perrottet called Mr Minns to concede defeat within hours of polls closing, and his attention will now turn to his ultra-safe seat of Epping, which is at risk of also falling to Labor.

Abbie had earlier pleaded with her New South Wales followers to vote in the state election, saying it’s time to ‘kick the Liberals out’.

The radio host posted a photo to her Instagram grid on Saturday, which showed her standing in front of a Green Party canvassing poster.

In capital letters, she captioned the post: ‘New South Wales! Vote Today! Vote for change! Use your preferences. Do not just Vote 1.

‘Climate action, rental crisis assistance, First Nations rights, LGBTQIA+ rights and so much more is at stake!

‘As a comment says: Kick the Liberals out!’

Abbie posted the photo on Saturday morning, five hours before polling stations closed.

In it, she stood outside her local booth in a black sports bra and several election posters are seen in the background.

The most prominent one is a Green Party poster that says ‘Climate Action Now!’

She edited the caption after the photo was posted, however, Instagram doesn’t show what changes have been made.

Comments have also been limited on the post, but many of her followers echoed her opinions, while others questioned her views.

Author Helen Chikx agreed with Abbie, as she commented: ‘Yep – Liberals out please and thank you’.

While another user wrote: ‘Get rid of them! But we also need the upper house to be less right leaning so voting below the line to the left also helps!’
